About

Adjoin San Diego ARTE on Chula Vista's Third Avenue delivers arts-based day services for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, operating as the newest program of Adjoin — a statewide 501(c)(3) incorporated in 1983 as the North County Career Development Program. Specialized direct-support staff facilitate small-group art instruction and community-based creative activities in a format distinct from the employment and independent-living tracks coordinated through nearby civic hubs such as Heritage Community Center. Adjoin became the first exclusively community-based program in California to earn national accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities in 1989, a distinction it has maintained through three organizational name changes. The broader Adjoin portfolio includes Supported Living Services, Tailored Day Services, a Department of Veterans Affairs – funded Supportive Services for Veteran Families program serving 750 veteran households across San Diego, Imperial Valley, and Riverside counties, and vocational placement through the same workforce-readiness pipeline that connects to South Bay Career Center. ARTE's curriculum pairs each participant with individualized art-development goals tracked by a 1:1 or small-group direct-support ratio, progressing through studio media including painting, mixed-media collage, and ceramics toward microenterprise skill-building and community exhibition.
