Occupying 75,000 square feet in Chula Vista at the corner of East H Street and Otay Lakes Road, Southwestern College Jaguar Aquatics Wellness & Sports—known as JAWS—is the region's largest college-operated fitness complex. The facility opened to community members in April 2022 under the Southwestern Community College District and holds two Olympic-sized pools, a 25-meter warm-water instructional pool, and a combined volume exceeding one million gallons—a competitive aquatics infrastructure that feeds athlete pipelines into sports rehabilitation clinics such as Sports Performance Physical Therapy. Above the pool deck, four exercise studios, a full-size basketball gymnasium, a dedicated dance studio, and a large cardio-weight room serve both enrolled Southwestern College students and paid community members. All swim instructors carry American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification, and certified lifeguards are required on deck during every lap and lesson session—a safety standard supported by the swim and training gear available at Road Runner Sports. Pool temperatures range from 74 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit in the competition lanes, while the warm-water teaching pool holds a steady 90 degrees for infant-through-adult learn-to-swim progressions across year-round enrollment cycles.
