St Mark's Lutheran Church in Chula Vista has anchored the corner of Hilltop Drive and I Street since its charter membership of 231 congregants was established in 1955. An ELCA congregation with four distinct worship communities—English, Spanish, Mandarin Chinese (Glory Lutheran), and Korean (Areumdaun Church)—the parish extends its multilingual mission through partnerships with S.O.W. Ministries that serve vulnerable populations across the South Bay. Project Hand, the church's food pantry, distributes three-day emergency food supplies to community members on a biweekly pickup schedule sourced through the regional food bank network. The congregation's adult-education offerings include Bible study groups and ESL conversation circles, connecting immigrant families to language-acquisition pathways that complement the vocational coursework at Chula Vista Adult School. The sanctuary, designed by architect Robert Des Lauriers and dedicated in 1967, seats the four-language congregation under a mid-century modern roofline on the original lot purchased for $18,000 in 1954.
