Hans & Harry's Bakery in Bonita has produced European-style pastries, cakes, and its signature fresh fruit strudel from 5080 Bonita Road since 1991, when Dutch bakers Hans Zandee and Harry Eijsermans opened the original storefront. The strudel program — the bakery's defining product — wraps seasonal fruit in hand-pulled phyllo-style dough, a technique that pairs with the specialty-coffee menu at Better Buzz Coffee Bonita down the road. Custom cakes for weddings, birthdays, and corporate events extend the menu beyond the pastry case, with buttercream, fondant, and fresh-flower finishes available on multi-tier orders. An expansion in November 2022 added production capacity to meet growing demand, including catering-scale orders for tournament and banquet events at Chula Vista Golf Course & Venue. The classical Danish layer cake stacks thin sponge rounds with pastry cream and a rum-glaze finish, reflecting the Northern European training the original founders brought to the Bonita corridor.
