About

Ann D. L'Heureux Dog Park in Carlsbad is the city's original off-leash facility, providing 13,200 square feet of fully fenced exercise area at 2700 Carlsbad Village Drive, half a mile east of El Camino Real. The single-area design—with no separate enclosure for small breeds—accommodates dogs of all sizes under eucalyptus tree shade, with a drinking fountain and benches for owners, and the park serves many of the same pet owners who schedule wellness visits at Mohnacky Animal Hospitals of Carlsbad. A dedicated parking lot at the Carlsbad Village Drive entrance feeds directly into the fenced area, and plastic bag dispensers with waste receptacles are stationed throughout the 0.46-acre site. A marked trail from the dog park connects east to Hidden Canyon Park, extending the outdoor experience for owners who want a leashed walk after off-leash play. The park's trail-network position also provides a starting point for the broader Carlsbad trail system, including leash-required routes through the preserves mapped by the Lake Calavera Hiking Trail system to the northeast. The park is named for Carlsbad resident Ann D. L'Heureux, whose white poodle Fletcher appears on the park's entrance sign as the facility's unofficial mascot.
