Founded in June 2010 by the Frye family, The Origin Hip Hop Performing Arts Academy in Carlsbad is a veteran-owned and women-owned studio at 2525 El Camino Real Suite 173, delivering street-dance education rooted in hip hop culture. The curriculum aligns with California Department of Education Content Standards for Visual and Performing Arts, a framework that connects the academy's programming to the standards reinforced at performance venues such as The Performing Arts Center at Sage Creek High School across the CUSD pipeline. Discipline-specific tracks in popping, locking, breaking, whacking, and hip hop choreography have trained over 3,000 students and produced competition crews that earned championship status at national and international hip hop events. The San Diego A-List named The Origin the top dance studio in the San Diego metro in both 2016 and 2017, and the academy has hosted students from outside the United States drawn by its film and television recognition. After-school and homeschool enrichment runs through the Arts in the Afternoon program, and Camp Origin and Club Origin Teen Nights extend the programming calendar alongside STEM camps offered as a Parker Anderson Enrichment Programs franchise, broadening the after-school resource base that includes the Carlsbad City Library system.
