El Camino Creek Elementary in Carlsbad's La Costa Valley neighborhood is the newest campus in the Encinitas Union School District, having opened in August 2000 on Paseo Aliso to serve approximately 410 students in grades K through six. The two-story facility includes a media center, outdoor garden-science classroom with teaching kitchen, makerspace, yoga studio, and art and music rooms—a design philosophy that aligns with the experiential learning model at ReKinected on the child-development side of Carlsbad's education corridor. CAASPP scores show 80 percent of students reaching proficiency in both math and English language arts, and Niche ranks the teaching staff 53rd in the state among public elementary schools. The school draws enrollment from both the La Costa Valley section of south Carlsbad and the Bridgewater, Rancho Ponderosa, Santa Fe Trails, and Willow Creek communities of Encinitas, bridging the two cities near Batiquitos Lagoon. The attendance area overlaps with the Encinitas Library service zone on South Vulcan Avenue, where the youth reading program and STEM workshops complement the school's garden-science and makerspace curriculum. Twenty-three general-education teachers and three Learning Resource Education Specialists maintain differentiated instruction across a campus built around a central courtyard with two separate playground zones.
