About

Army and Navy Academy in Carlsbad Village occupies a 15.1-acre beachfront campus on Carlsbad Boulevard, making it one of the few college-preparatory military boarding schools in the nation with direct Pacific Ocean frontage. Founded in 1910 by Colonel Thomas A. Davis, the academy moved from Pacific Beach to its current Carlsbad site in 1936, and its coastal setting enables surf instruction through Enjoy The Ride Surf School as part of the athletic rotation. The all-boys program enrolls approximately 285 cadets in grades 7 through 12, maintaining a 10:1 student-teacher ratio and offering 15 Advanced Placement courses aligned with UC A-G admission standards. West Point-style JROTC leadership training anchors the cadet schedule alongside 16 varsity sports — baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, lacrosse, soccer, surfing, swimming, tennis, track, water polo, and wrestling among them — with injury rehabilitation supported by Longevity Physical Therapy. International enrollment accounts for roughly 30 percent of the corps, drawing cadets from over a dozen countries who complete ESL coursework concurrent with the college-preparatory curriculum.
