About

Little Oaks Winery in Carlsbad's Aviara district produces small-lot wines from grapes sourced exclusively within San Diego County vineyards, operating from a warehouse tasting room on Corte Del Cedro near Batiquitos Lagoon. The appointment-only format allows barrel-to-glass pours of estate-produced Malbec, Sangiovese, Syrah, and Red Meritage alongside Chardonnay and Viognier whites, a tasting-room model also used by Carruth Cellars Tasting Room. The winemaker began fermenting fruit in 1993 in Northern California, transitioned to San Diego County grapes by 2008, and bottled the first commercial Little Oaks vintage in 2013 for its 2015 retail release. Tasting flights pair six wines for evaluation alongside locally produced provisions, a vine-to-table ethos echoed by Carlsbad artisanal producers including Humble Olive Oils. Production stays below 100 cases annually, with the Malbec and Syrah varietals fermented in 32-gallon American oak barrels originally sourced from Ramona Valley cooperages.
